Avanafil – Things You Should Know About

Avanafil is the fifth drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration of America for the treatment of male sexual impotence or erectile dysfunction.  Although people may ask why the need for another erectile dysfunction since there is only a limited market for ED, well, the answer to this is that it may not be crucial for you if you don’t suffer the condition, but if you do, you will definitely accept it as a welcome option.  Stendra is the branded name for avanafil.

How does it Work?

Avanafil belongs to a class of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors, the same class more popular drugs like Viagra belongs to.  Although both drugs are made of different active ingredients – Viagra being sildenafil and Stendra being avanafil – their methods of encouraging erection on erectile disabled penises is similar as both helps to increase the blood flow towards the cavities inside the penis.  During its testing phase, avanafil has proven to be more effective than the leading erectile dysfunction treatment brands.

Avanafil needs to be taken by mouth with or without food.  It should be consumed 30 minutes prior to sexual intercourse, although 15 minutes is often enough to achieve response, different reaction times in each individual makes 30 minutes the recommended time for proper onset of action.

Avanafil works very similarly to Viagra, but it does not have the same altered-vision side effects Viagra users are prone to.  Avanafil also works double the amount of hours Viagra is known to, being Viagra – 4 hours and avanafil – 10 hours.  The other benefit that avanafil has over other ED meds is that it can be taken safely by people taking heart medications.  However, before proceeding to take avanafil, it is still important that you consult your doctor regarding any types of medications, whether prescription or non-prescription you are taking.

Avanafil still has most of the side effects found in PDE5 inhibitor drugs which include headaches, nasal congestions, and back pains.

You should never take avanafil when taking nitrate medications as this will result in severely low blood pressure.

What to avoid when taking or under avanafil?

Most of the times, it is not recommended to eat fatty foods prior to taking ED medications because it decreases absorption time.  However, avanafil is not prone to this.  Nevertheless, you should not drink excessive alcohol before taking or when under avanafil because the side-effects you may experience from taking the drug is amplified.  It is recommended not to drink alcohol primarily.  Additionally, you should never drink any grapefruit when taking or under avanafil because this drink has a serious side-effect on avanafil or any other ED drug for that matter.  It is said that grapefruit increases the absorption of the active ingredients of these PDE5 inhibitor drugs into the bloodstream as if your dose has been increased exponentially.

Always remember that when taking avanafil that to take the drug alone and never mix it with any other ED drugs to maybe increase the effect.  Doing this not only makes you more susceptible to the side effects of both drugs, but the mixing may also have adverse reactions.
