Simple Strategies on How to Strengthen Your Immune System

Diseases and infections are both common and unavoidable.  If you have experienced having colds, pinkeye, or flu, then you know just how unavoidable some infectious diseases are.  Fortunately, we have our immune system to protect us from other diseases.  Even if we get sick at times, it does not mean our immune system is not working.  It is possible that the infection is a new form of strain that the body is not familiar with.  Once our body becomes familiar with a certain strain, through immunity, our body will never be infected by that specific strain again.  Such is the power and the troublesome work of our immune system.  Possibly the best thing about the immune system is that we do not need to do anything to maintain it, but we can somehow do something to strengthen it.

Here is a simple list on how you can help strengthen your immune system:

1. Eat Nutritious Food – when you do not have any nourishment in the body, the immune system becomes impaired, allowing you to be susceptible to even minor diseases.  If you are serious in wanting to strengthen your immune system, it is important that you eat lots of nutritious food along with lots of fruits and vegetables.  By doing such, you will be promoting health towards your immune system.

2. Avoid Stress – being too much stressed will weaken your immune system because it becomes somewhat suppressed by the fatigue and stress you feel in your body.  For example, it is widely known that if you suffer from psychological stress that you are very much at risk of acquiring the common cold.  Although this type of disease is not alarming, the fact that you are more susceptible to diseases simply means your stress has weakened your immune system.  If possible, try to avoid stress at all cost.  You can do yoga, meditation, or go to some spa and have yourself pampered.

3. Exercise – doing some cardio exercises will help get your heart pumping.  This in turn discharges the tension in your body because exercise can also release endorphins, the feel good hormones.  Doing regular exercises like brisk walking, jogging, biking, swimming, dancing, or aerobics will not just help in strengthening your immune system, but by doing so, you also improve your stamina and at the same time allowing you to sleep better at night.

4. Sufficient Sleep – by getting adequate amount of sleep, you allow your body to rest fully while at the same time, allow the body to its maintenance repairs at the cellular level.  If you are deprived of sleep, your body will become stressed and fatigued and will not be able to function properly.  Additionally, your body will not be able to produce the right amount of antibodies should an infection ensue.  To strengthen your immune system, have sufficient sleep during nighttime is very important.

5. Become Social – by living a social life, you will be able to enjoy better health.  Contrary to popular belief that you will be more prone to diseases by being social, in truth, those who are social according to studies made are less susceptible to catching colds as compared to those who are always alone.
